Compulsory schooling in Malta starts at the age of three
and ends at 16. The primary school consists of two kindergarten years
(3-4 years), Classes 1-5 (5-10 years). At 11, there is the option of
either a Junior Lyceum leading to further studies or Area Secondaries
leading to technical skills' teaching.
Vocational, technical and higher-education oriented
schools are available. The University of Malta has a variety of courses
available for the 18-year old students embarking on their first degree.
Post-graduate studies are also available.
